Muckross House to Torc Waterfall

Explore some of Killarney National Park’s most famous scenery on a walk from the Muckross Estate towards Torc Waterfall. The gentle Dundag to Torc path follows mostly flat ground and offers views across Muckross Lake, the surrounding mountains and the open Torc fields. The route ends close to Torc Waterfall, where the water cascades through the woodland and provides one of Killarney’s most recognisable views.

Ross Island Mining Trail

Starting beside Ross Castle, the Ross Island Mining Trail is an easy 3km loop through peaceful woodland and along the shores of Lough Leane. The trail passes the remains of historic copper mines and offers views of Ross Castle, the lake and the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks. Its mostly flat and gentle terrain makes it a good option for families or anyone looking for a shorter walk close to Killarney.

Intermediate Walks & Hikes in Killarney National Park

Torc Mountain Hike

For walkers looking for more of a challenge, the Torc Mountain Walk rewards the climb with wide-reaching views over the Lakes of Killarney and the surrounding countryside. The route includes woodland paths, stone steps and sections of boardwalk as it rises towards the summit. Some parts can be steep, but the defined trail makes Torc Mountain a popular introduction to hill walking in Killarney.

Muckross Lake Loop

The Muckross Lake Loop is a longer walk of approximately 15km, circling the beautiful Muckross Lake. The route passes woodland, lakeshore scenery, Dinis Cottage, Bricín Bridge and the Meeting of the Waters, where the lakes of Killarney come together. Walkers can also take a short detour to visit Torc Waterfall. Allow several hours to complete the full loop and bring suitable footwear, water and snacks.
